Rita Ida Dentlinger, age 98, of Glidden, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Regency Park in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Father Timothy Schott as Celebrant. Music for the Mass will be by the St. Elizabeth Seton Choir with Mary Ross as Organist and Mike Bolton and Jodi Louwsma as soloists. Lectors for the Mass will be Patsy Halbur and Dianne Pinneke. Eucharistic minister will be Judy Mayer. Gift bearers will be Wendy Dentlinger and Dawn Kerwood. Casket bearers will be Keith Dentlinger, Craig Dentlinger, Evan Newcomb, Owen Kerwood, Leonard Feilmeier, Michael Kerwood, Konner Johnson, and Kaleb Johnson. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden from 9:30 – 10:45 A.M. on Saturday prior to the Mass.

Rita was born on January 26, 1926 on her family’s farm near Audubon, IA. She was the daughter of Wendelin and Clara (Willenberg) Feilmeier. Her family moved to Templeton when she was a young girl and she attended country school. Rita did housekeeping for several local families before she was married to James Dentlinger on January 13, 1948 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle by Fr. Bernard Montag. Jim and Rita lived in Breda for several years where Jim worked for Snappy Popcorn and Rita was a homemaker. Jim and Rita purchased a farm southeast of Glidden in 1964 where they raised their children Robert and Beverly. Rita was an active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden and was instrumental in its formation. She was also a member of the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion Auxiliary in Glidden. Rita worked for the Glidden Co-op where she graded eggs. Rita and Jim enjoyed traveling and camping, visiting all 50 states, and spending the winters in Mesa, Arizona for 20 years. Jim and Rita also traveled through many parts of Europe and Central America. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards, cooking, and most of all spending time with her family.
Rita is survived by her son Bob Dentlinger (Peggy) of Coon Rapids; daughter Bev Dentlinger (Andy Krause) of Glidden; three grandchildren: Keith Dentlinger (Wendy) of Boone, Dawn Kerwood (Michael) of Urbandale, and Katie Johnson of Ames; eleven great-grandchildren: Abbey, Ethan, Craig, Evan, Owen, Kaleb, Faith, Konner, Gracie, Kase, and Curlie; three great-great-grandchildren: Carrera, Ryker, and Jim; two sisters-in-law: Irene Feilmeier of Westside and Marcia Feilmeier of Glidden; and many nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband James Dentlinger in 2017; her parents Wendelin and Clara Feilmeier; her father and mother-in-law: Phillip and Katherine Dentlinger; two sisters: Marie Lammers (Edwin) and Laura Muhlbauer (Anthony), six brothers: Rudy, Al, Earl (Janice), Leonard, Junior (Margie), and Bernie, a grandson Craig Dentlinger; and in-laws: Angie Riesberg, Agatha Fischer, Gladys Halbur, Jeanette Venner, and Jim’s twin brother Jerry.
