The countdown to the first day of classes is on for students, teachers, and families in the Kuemper Catholic School System (KCSS). According to Kuemper President John Steffes, the 2024-25 school year begins on Friday, Aug. 23. While students may have been out of the buildings over the summer break, there has been plenty of activity throughout their four main attendance centers.
Another significant change coming to Kuemper in 2024-25 is the makeup of its school board.
Kuemper welcomes 10 new teachers to its staff this year, which Steffes says is a great feeling, considering the difficulty many schools have faced in recent years trying to fill open positions.
Steffes adds that the only unfilled opening they have is in the KuemperCares program. New teachers report on Thursday, Aug. 15, while all staff is back to school on Monday, Aug. 19, to prepare for students to return on Friday, Aug. 23. Steffes says they are always excited to welcome students back, but he notes they are looking forward to four individuals, in particular, this year.
Steffes invites students, teachers, and families to Kuemper’s systemwide open houses on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. That same night, the school is hosting its Family Fun Night from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Holy Spirit playground to welcome families back for the 2024-25 school year.
