Vernon Riesselman of Halbur

Vernon Henry Riesselman, age 86 of Halbur, IA, passed away on­ Saturday, August 10, 2024 at his home in Halbur, IA.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 16, 2024 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur with Fr. Terry Roder as Celebrant.  Music for the Mass will be by Julie Sibbel, Mike Bolton and the St. Augustine Choir. Lector for the Mass will be Katie Blair.  Gift bearers will be Allison Metzger, Sadie Buchta, and Molly Hoffman.  Casket bearers will be Vernon’s grandchildren: Heather Hoffman-Richeson, Alison Metzger, Matthew Riesselman, Katie Blair, Michael Riesselman, Sadie Buchta, and Molly Hoffman.  Burial will be in the St. Augustine Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church from 12:30 – 1:45 P.M. on Friday prior to the Mass.

Vernie, as he was known to most, was born January 10, 1938 on his family’s farm near Halbur, IA, in Carroll County and he was the son of Katherina (Muhlbauer) and Henry Riesselman.   He grew up near Halbur and graduated from Carroll High School in 1955.  He married Elizabeth (Betty) Gosch on February 20, 1960 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA.  In 1960 he purchased a partnership in Halbur Hardware in Halbur, IA.  Vern and his wife Betty owned and operated Halbur Hardware until their retirement in 2010.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cooking and entertaining friends and family.  He served his community as a fireman and mayor of Halbur from 1970 – 1973.
Vern is survived by his three children and their families: Julie Hoffman (Todd) of Dedham, Jeff Riesselman of Glidden, Bill Riesselman (Kim) of Halbur, seven grandchildren: Heather Hoffman-Richeson (Justin),  Alison Metzger ( Marcus), Matthew Riesselman (Alma), Katie Blair (Dan),  Michael Riesselman (Kaitlyn), Sadie Buchta (Drew), Molly Hoffman (Cole); nine great grandchildren: Logan Richeson, Ryker Riesselman, Maxon Riesselman, Elizabeth Richeson, Dawson Riesselman, Issaac Blair, Kaden Buchta,  Audrey Blair and Hattie Hoffman.
Vern is also survived by his siblings: Andy Riesselman of Carroll, IA,   Alice Christiansen of Lake City, IA, sister-in-law’s, Linda Riesselman of Omaha, NE, brother and sister in-laws Norma Gosch of Carroll, IA, Joyce Gosch of Parker, CO, Eleanor Olerich of Wall Lake, IA Richard Gosch (Sandra) of Ormon by the Sea, FL, Mary Snyder (Carl) of Breda, IA, John Gosch (Sheila) of Odebolt, IA, Ruth Liekor (Mike) of Hayse, KS, Mary Gosch of Papillion, NE, Joan Hernandez (Jose) of Omaha, NE, Janette Mandel (Daryl) of Oak Harbor, WA,  Pat Gosch of Carroll, IA, Mark Gosch of Auburn, IA and Thresa Hogan of Lubbock, TX,  and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
Vern was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Riesselman earlier on April 16, 2024; parents Kathrina and Henry Riesselman; his parent-in- laws Alyce and Alfred Gosch; a son Troy Riesselman in 1995; a daughter in law Christine Riesselman in 2022; his siblings Herb Riesselman (Doloros), Lawrence Riesselman (Ada),  Marie Wernimont (Bill), Walt Riesselman (Lucille), Vince Riesselman (Edith), Jean Frischmeyer (Leonard),  Leonard Riesselman (Donna), Kathryn Curnyn ( Gorden Pody)  (Bob Curnyn), and Henery Riesselman, brother and sister in-laws JoAnn Riesselman, Tom Christiansen, Fred Gosch, Francis (Mickey) Gosch, Francis Olerich, Robert Gosch, and Debbie Gosch.
