The Ar-We-Va Community School District is positively celebrating the start of the 2024-25 school year with a full staff, an increase in enrollment, and more. Superintendent Nathan Hemiller is excited to welcome staff and students back after the summer break, saying the year will start on the right foot by seeing enrollment increase for the second year.
Hemiller says the teacher shortage is being seen in districts around the nation. That is why Ar-We-Va is celebrating the district, starting with all positions filled.
Over the summer, the Ar-We-Va School Board met to review and update policies if needed. The attendance policy was updated regarding SF 2435, which requires more accountability from districts if a student misses more than ten percent of the school year. Hemiller says another policy change from last year will be access to cell phones for high school students.
Hemiller says it was just regular maintenance at the school building for projects this summer, but he did say the district is looking to complete some bigger ones potentially during the school year.
Teachers and students return to the district next week, and Hemiller says everyone is ready to continue the strong tradition of excellence that Ar-We-Va has created. He hopes all families can attend the open house on Aug. 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with Meet the Rockets, featuring the fall sports teams immediately following.
