The Audubon Wheelers head back to class on Friday, Aug. 23, to kick off the 2024-25 school year. With the new year comes a new superintendent, Trever Miller, who officially took over as the Audubon Community School District’s leader on July 1. Miller has also served as superintendent at Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton since 2016, so he is familiar with the area. He says his first few months in Audubon have been focused on learning the ins and outs of the district and its team members.

Most schools complete major construction projects over the summer, and Audubon was no exception. Most of the work was focused outside the main attendance centers, as the district completed a considerable renovation at the middle/high school last year. Miller says they did need to check some final boxes on that work over the last few months, but the bulk of the attention was on the district’s new bus barn.

New teachers to the district report tomorrow (Thursday) for onboarding, while returning staff is back in the office on Monday, Aug. 19. Classes begin Friday, Aug. 23 for the Wheelers. Miller invites families and students to their schoolwide open houses on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Students have just over a week before they head back to school, and Miller says it is time to start getting kids off their summer schedule and into the school year routine.

Miller adds that every new school year brings exciting opportunities, and he and the staff are looking forward to another wonderful year. To stay in touch with Wheelers’ activities and events, log on to www.audubon.k12.ia.us.
