Donna Buswell of Jefferson, formerly of Scranton

 Donna Delores Buswell, age 93, of Jefferson, IA, and formerly of Scranton, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Greene County Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Evers officiating.  Organist for the service will be Karen Murphy.  Casket bearers will be Chad Buswell, Troy Morgan, Gabe Morgan, Caleb Buswell, Matt Finch, and Cody Bennett.  Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Scranton United Methodist Church from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday evening.  Additional visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. on Saturday prior to the service.

Donna was born on July 29, 1931 in Coon Rapids, IA, and she was the daughter of Henry Mason and Iva Lorene (Bean) Johnson.  Donna attended Orange Township Country School in Guthrie County until the 8th grade.  She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1949.  Donna met the love of her life, Vernon Buswell, at a football game in Scranton after he returned from serving overseas in the military.  Vernon proposed to Donna on Valentine’s Day 1949 and they were married on July 10, 1949 at the home of Donna’s parents in Coon Rapids.  From their union four children were born: Denny, Lorrie, Henry, and Todd.  Vernon and Donna farmed until they purchased an acreage east of Scranton.  Donna was a devoted wife and mother and also held jobs outside the home after her children were all in school.  Donna worked as a nurse’s aide and was employed for 25 years at Electrolux Factory in Jefferson.  She made many lasting friends at her job which continued into her retirement.  She belonged to the Ladene Club, the Red Hat Ladies, Quilters, and she served as a 4-H and Cub Scout leader.  Donna had a strong work ethic.  She always had a large garden and did lots of canning.  She had a passion for flowers, crocheting, sewing, and cooking.  Donna loved her family and led them by her great example.  Donna loved the Lord and talked with him daily.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scranton where she was active teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school, and served with the United Methodist Women.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Denny (Cheryl) Buswell of Altoona, IA, Lorrie (Gale) Zellweger of Scranton, Henry (Shelley) Buswell of Lindon, UT, and Todd (Charleen) Buswell of Omaha, NE; eleven grandchildren: Terra Morgan, Gabe (Jeanna) Morgan, Troy (Laura) Morgan, Chad (Sarah) Buswell, Tiffany (Matt) Finch, Caleb (Kira) Buswell, Ashley (Huggy) Larsen, Jessica (Wes) McColl, Sarah (Shawn) Kolar, Rachel (Josh) Krzemien, and Hannah Buswell (fiancé Grady Lohrenze); 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-laws:  Lois Buswell and Mary Mallison; a brother-in-law: Harrie (Katy) Buswell; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Iva Johnson; her husband Vernon Buswell in 2004; her eleven siblings: Floyd, Vern, Geraldine, Duane, Clair, Darrell, Delmar, Donald, Juanita, Marvin, and Dickey.
