Local Winners From Various Contests And Tournaments From Iowa State Fair

The Iowa State Fair is full of contests, from animal judging to even the hairiest legs, with a few locals from the listening area winning some of these creative contests. Albert the 2nd, an Angus belonging to Randy and Crystal Dreher in Audubon, took home third place in the Super Bull contest, with Albert weighing in at 2,476 pounds. Twins from Rockwell City, Kayna, and Kemrie Kraft, were awarded second place in the five- to six-year-old division for most alike. Mike Davis, a Coon Rapids native, won second place in the inexperienced category for the backgammon tournament. The ever-popular chicken calling contest awarded Julie Steinkamp from Wall Lake the second-place prize. Brody Steenblock, from Panora, took home first place in the duck calling for the youth group and second in turkey calling also in the youth division. Steenblock was beaten by Liam Cretsinger from Coon Rapids, who took first place for calling for turkeys. The annual Bill Riley Talent Show displayed a competition every night, with the semi-finals being held tonight (Thursday) through Saturday and the grand finale on Sunday. Ava Skarin, age 14, from Denison, will compete in the semi-finals for her solo in Aero Dance for the senior division. Kollins Smith, age five, from Lake City, takes his vocal solo in the sprouts category. For the second year in a row, Braxten and Jaxon Neiland won the peddle tractor pulls, with Marasyn Nieland taking home second place this year. Sac County Fair Queen Nora Pickhinke was the second runner-up in the State Fair Queen Competition. Pickhinke is the daughter of Brian and Kari Pickhinke and Ellen and Dave Recker.
