The East Sac County (ESC) Community School District is counting down to the last week of summer break before the 2024-25 school year begins. Superintendent Nathan Hemiller says New Teacher Day was yesterday (Thursday) for the district, with all teachers returning on Monday, Aug. 19. Along with orientation, the East Sac PTO provided a welcome-to-the-district lunch at Cattlemen’s Steakhouse for new teachers.

Aside from chronic absenteeism regulations across the state, the ESC District has reviewed the rural bus routes. Hemiller says the district is large and covers a lot of miles, so it wasn’t surprising to find that students were riding on a route for longer than the administration desired.

A new playground is a project currently in the works for ESC Elementary School. Hemiller says planning started in the Fall of 2023, with many volunteers and Julie Clayton, who wrote for many grants to assist with funding.

The Raiders head back to the classroom on Friday, Aug. 23. Hemiller hopes to see all elementary students in Kindergarten through sixth grade at the open house on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. PK Open House will be on Monday, Aug. 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hemiller is hopeful for another great year, and to continue the strong academic growth from last year, and continue on with that progress.
