CCSD Board Of Education Reviewed Multiple Policies, Established Bid Date For Transportation Project And Approved Bonus Pay During Monday’s Board Meeting

Board of Education members and administrators from the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) met one last time Monday evening before kicking off the 2024-25 school year at the end of the week. The meeting started with a closed session per Iowa Code 21.5(1)i, reviewing or discussing records required or authorized by state or federal law to be kept confidential. Following the closed session, the members approved to consider an open enrollment eligibility request. The board then reviewed eight annual and 44 first and second readings of board policies, with three deleted policies regarding truancy- unexcused absences due to HF2547 with more regulations on chronic absenteeism. The district’s board members accepted donations from six businesses or individuals, which included printers for the tech department, school supplies, classroom and building furniture, incentives for Student of the Month, and a donation of a rocking chair in memory of Lynne Dvorak. Action items at the meeting included the approval of district and superintendent goals and the nomination of Board Member Duane Horsley to serve as a delegate for the Iowa Association of School Board (IASB) assembly. The Teacher Quality Committee and Board Policy Review Committee were approved, along with revisions to the high school handbook regarding cell phone use and the handbook for the upcoming Wrap-Around Program. The Business Office reported a budget update and established a bid date to receive bids for the new transportation facility project. All bids must be received by Sept. 12 at 2:00 p.m., with the public hearing scheduled for Sept. 16 to review and accept the favored contract. The board members approved the bonding and disclosure services from Dorsey & Whitney for the legal representation to the district to authorize the issuance of a bond once bids have been received. The remaining action items included the approval of classified staff bonus pay for support personnel and the bonus plan presented by the Carroll Education Association (CEA) during negotiations with the raising of the minimum teacher salary to equalize pay increases across all levels of teachers. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more of these topics in future newscasts.
