The Carroll County Conservation Board has voted to permanently close the beach on Swan Lake’s eastern shore. During their meeting last week, the board voted unanimously to make space for other amenities. Conservation Director Jason Christensen says the public did not use the beach enough to justify the maintenance labor cost.

Christensen adds that the beach has been part of Swan Lake’s recreational offerings for decades, but the number of people who choose to swim in the shallow waters has consistently declined, especially in recent years. The closure is not effective immediately. The beach will remain open for the rest of this season and won’t reopen next summer. Christensen says the board has yet to formally decide what the space will be used for in the future, but they have some ideas.

The Carroll County Conservation Board will discuss plans for the Swan Lake beach area at its Monday, Sept. 9, meeting.
