CCSD Teachers And Support Staff Could Be Seeing A Pay Bonus This Upcoming School Year

The Board of Education has approved Carroll Community School District (CCSD) teachers and support staff to receive a bonus during the upcoming 2024-25 school year. On March 27, Governor Kim Reynolds signed HF 2612, requiring school districts to receive funding to add on to support staff compensation. The original bill proposed to increase support staff minimum pay to $15 an hour but was amended due to little support. Director of Business Affairs Nicole McCarville says CCSD has received $47,332 to use towards a support staff bonus plan.

Support staff must meet the following requirements in order to receive this one-time payment. Staff must be actively employed by the district as of Oct. 1 and remain in a support position role until the last day of the 2024-25 school year. Support staff must work at least 90% of their scheduled work hours and not have been on an improvement plan for this academic year. McCarville says the money will then be divided among the support staff awarded the bonus and paid in June of 2025.

Teachers will also receive a one-time bonus to compensate those who were somewhere between being paid the new base pay per Iowa legislation or having 12 years of experience. McCarville says 93 teachers did not receive the minimum base increase.

The board members approved spending $142,998, distributed among the 93 teachers, who received an original pay increase between 3.8 and 6.34 percent. The range of teacher payments will be from $134.53 TO $2,580.66, depending on how far off that teacher’s increase was to the 6.63 percent. For the support staff, if all 130 individuals qualify for the bonus, the average payment will be $364, with part-time staff earning half or three-fourths of that, depending on contracted hours.
