Local 4-H Winners At Iowa State Fair For Livestock

From cows and horses to rabbits and dogs, many local 4-H members took their animals to the Iowa State Fair, with some returning as winners. Carroll County had 12 individuals awarded including reserve champion Charolais breeding, first place English pullet chicken and reserve champion for gilt swine of another breed. Out of the 15 members representing Calhoun County, awards included a grand champion market heifer, a champion pony western walk/trot competition, and more. Greene County featured 13 individuals, bringing home 22 awards alone in the various horse shows and competitions. Guthrie County 4-H had 19 individuals compete, winning the High Scoring Novice B Dog Obedience title and the Reserve Champion Bred and Owned Simmental Heifer. The reserve champion Hampshire breeding gilt came from Crawford County, where 17 4-H members showed off cows, sheep, and swine for blue and purple ribbons. The ten 4-H participants from Audubon County featured awards for the Ranch Horse Conformation Mares Champion with horses eight years and older, seven prized poultry, and more. Steers, sheep, and swine won 13 Sac County 4-H members with second and third place and many ribbons. The complete list of livestock 4-H awards has been included below.
