Regional Unemployment Trended Higher In July

According to data released this week by Iowa Workforce Development, regional unemployment rates crept higher in July. Carroll County once again led the area with the lowest unemployment rate at 2.3 percent, 0.1 points higher than last month but even with July 2023’s rate. Audubon County followed close behind at 2.4 percent, 0.1 points higher than last month and 0.4 points higher than last year. Guthrie County’s rate climbed by 0.2 points to 2.8 percent, compared to 2.7 percent a year ago. Calhoun and Sac Counties recorded unemployment at 2.8 percent, followed by Greene County at 3.4 percent and Crawford County at 4.2 percent. Sac County was the only county in the region to see improvements from June to July, with its unemployment rate decreasing by 0.4 points. Across the seven-county region, unemployment averaged 3.0 percent, 0.1 points above June’s average and 0.2 points higher than last July. IWD does not seasonally adjust local figures. Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in July was 2.8 percent, while the national rate stood at 4.3 percent. A link to the full IWD July 2024 dataset is included below.
