The state’s fuel prices trended downward in this week’s fuel report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and AAA-Iowa. As of Thursday, Aug. 22, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.18, down eight cents from last week and 47 cents below prices from a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was down six cents to $3.69. In retail diesel, Iowa prices slipped one cent to $3.49 per gallon, compared to $4.11 this time last year. Local prices remain 24 cents below the $3.73 national average. Wholesale ethanol prices were unchanged from $2.16, while natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site fell 16 cents to $2.05 per MMBtu.
