A Denison man sustained serious but not-life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash in western Iowa over the weekend. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 49-year-old Juan Cardenas Chavez of Denison was traveling southbound on Interstate 29 in a 1997 Nissan Frontier at approximately 7:31 a.m. Saturday between Whiting and Onawa. Authorities say Chavez was towing a 1994 Dodge Dakota, and it was struck from behind by a 2025 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer, operated by 64-year-old Theodore Armstrong of Belmont, N.C. Both drivers lost control of their respective vehicles and sustained injuries in the crash. Monona County Emergency Medical Services transported Chavez and Armstrong to Burgess Health Center in Onawa for treatment.
