Carroll County ISU Extension To Host Pasture Walk To Share Latest Trends In Land/Herd Management Practices

Registration is now open for an upcoming seminar hosted by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach and the Iowa Forage and Grassland Council (IFGC) on the future of pasture management. The Tuesday, Sept. 10, program will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Hundling farm west of Breda at 11879 Birch Ave. Attendees will learn the latest about herd control using virtual fences. These devices act like electric dog fences but use GPS instead of buried wire and eliminate the need for physical barriers to keep cattle, goats, and other animals contained. Other topics of interest for area producers include weed management practices in pastureland and multispecies grazing plans. A portion of the Sept. 10 program will be spent in the field as part of a pasture walk to see firsthand these methods and their effectiveness. The event is free and includes a meal. Attendees are asked to RSVP by Monday, Sept. 9 to reserve their spot using the contact points included with this story on our website. ISU Extension and Outreach and IFGC will host a second program on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Colfax.
