Two informative meetings will be held in Greene and Guthrie County to discuss the hazardous liquid pipeline project with Summit Carbon Solutions representatives. Earlier this summer, the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) approved the permit application for the 688-mile-long underground pipeline in 29 Iowa Counties. The permit gives Summit Carbon the green light for the overall pipeline route and grants the right of eminent domain over specific parcels listed in the order after the permit is issued. Before construction begins, Summit Carbon has to obtain a $100 million general liability insurance policy and route approvals from North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Nebraska. Counties in Nebraska are holding off on voting, looking to see what other states decide, except Stanton County, which has denied a conditional use permit. Minnesota, along with North and South Dakota, are holding more informative meetings on the project before voting to make any decisions. The IUC has approved Summit Carbon to host informative meetings here in Iowa, providing more details about the process and the expected outcome of the pipeline’s construction and answering any questions the public may have. Summit representatives will be in Guthrie County tonight (Tuesday) at the Guthrie County Activity Center starting at 6:00 p.m. The next meeting will take place in Greene County tomorrow (Wednesday) at 12:00 p.m. in Clover Hall at the Greene County Fairgrounds.
