Fuel prices in the state trended downward in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa, as Iowans prepare to hit the road for the unofficial last weekend of summer. As of Wednesday, Aug. 28, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.14, down four cents from last week and 43 cents below prices from a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was down three cents to $3.36 per gallon. In retail diesel, the average price per gallon was down three cents to $3.46 per gallon, compared to $4.13 a year ago. Iowa prices remain 25 cents below the $3.71 national average. Wholesale ethanol held steady at $2.16, while natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site rose seven cents to $2.12 per MMBtu.
