Lake View Historic Preservation Commission Establishing Contract For Yearly Maintenance Of Stone Pier Stage

With the Stone Pier Summer Concert Series wrapping up on Sunday, the Lake View Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is ready to get some much-needed work done on the Historic Stone Pier stage. HPC members have approached the city council, recommending that the stonework be completed to preserve the monument. Sue Barney, Chair of the organization, says that due to weather, stones have come loose and need to be mortared back into place.

Barney says that a stone mason from Rockwell City will undertake this project. With the city council’s approval, the HPC is also looking to set up a yearly contract with him.

Barney says the Stone Pier’s popularity as a tourist attraction in Lake View and its place in the community’s history are only some of the reasons why HPC and the city council are looking to keep the stage updated.

With the stones already out, the work will continue after the concert on Sunday and is expected to be finished by mid-September. Everyone is welcome to celebrate with Lake View’s “A Starry Night,” featuring free live musical entertainment from the Band of Heathens and Cory Waller and the Wicked Things starting at 5:00 p.m. Food will be available to purchase as always. Something different for this event is the concert kids giveaway in honor of Lauren “Rudy” Goodenow, with the first 100 kids receiving a free magic fidget star at the merchandise tent. Again, the final Stone Pier Summer Concert Series for the 2024 season will be this Sunday, starting at 5:00 p.m.
