The population of Roselle is expected to swell by several orders of magnitude this weekend as Holy Angels Church celebrates its sesquicentennial. The Holy Angels Parish was founded 150 years ago in 1874 and has been a central part of the unincorporated community since its founding. The organizing committee has been preparing for this weekend’s festivities for months, and Amy Schreck, who played a central role in the planning, says they have a great day in store for Saturday.

Schreck says they’ve slotted two hours for the parade as they anticipate many tractors, vehicles, firetrucks, and other participants.

Saturday’s entertainment includes live music from Aged Spirits from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., followed by 2 ½ Guitars from 9 p.m. to midnight. Schreck says they expect hundreds of visitors this weekend, as the support from surrounding communities has been overwhelming.

While having a good time is the main agenda item in Roselle this weekend, Schreck says visitors shouldn’t forget the central theme of the celebration: Holy Angels’ history. The church building and cemetery were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2019, and that history will be on display throughout the weekend.
