Numerous residents, including the St. Angelas Center for the Kuemper Catholic Schools, were without power yesterday (Thursday) after a semi-knocked down a utility pole by St. Anthony Regional Hospital. According to the accident report, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a 2016 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer, operated by 33-year-old Ayom Mamer of Omaha, Neb., was attempting to make a left turn from the St. Anthony Regional Hospital parking lot onto E. Anthony Street. It is believed that telephone and television cables were hanging too low above the roadway, getting caught on the refrigeration trailer. The semi pulled on the wires, breaking the northwest pole and causing multiple cables to collapse on the semi and roadway. MidAmerican and the Carroll Fire Department were dispatched to the scene to assist in freeing the semi of the live power lines. No one was injured, but damage is estimated to be $7,500 to the refrigeration component of the trailer and $1,500 to the utility pole. Power was restored to residents and the school building later on Thursday afternoon.
