Audubon CSD Building Memorial Bus Stop In Honor Of Long-Time Bus Driver

The Audubon Community School District (CSD) is again focusing on student safety by constructing a bus stop in memory of a long-time dedicated transportation employee. Ted and Donna Hansen have been long-time bus drivers for the Audubon and Exira-EHK districts for many years, building solid relationships with students throughout their careers.  In 2018, Ted retired from bus driving and passed away in November 2023. Audubon CSD Superintendent Trevor Miller says Donna approached the school board with the idea of a shelter for students waiting outside for the bus.

The partial structure will be on the east side of the elementary building on Leroy Street. An order has been placed and will be delivered within the next eight weeks or so. Miller says the best part of this memorial bus stop is that the community is working together to construct it.

Miller says staff members would say both Ted and Donna were very dedicated employees who emphasized student safety while serving as bus drivers. He says he could not think of a better way to honor all their hard work in the district.

Miller hopes the new bus stop shelter will be delivered and assembled before the first round of winter weather hits.
