Denison Municipal Utilities Scheduled To Turn On Service To New Water Tower Friday

The Denison Municipal Utilities (DMU) checks off the next project in Phase One of the water system improvement project by placing the new water tower in service tomorrow (Friday). The $4.8 million project was introduced in 2022 by DMU to improve the city’s water infrastructure by increasing the system’s reliability and replacing an outdated system to increase safety and the capacity of the water supply. The demolishing of the previous storage tank on N. 24th Street and replacing it with a 500,000-gallon, 63-foot water tower was only a small part of the complete project. The project also entails constructing a new pumping station on 18th Street that will send water to the new water tower, 4,755 feet of 12-inch water mains, additional fire hydrants, and installing two pressure-reducing valves. The new water tower will increase water pressure for consumers in the service area by approximately 27 pounds per square inch (PSI), resulting in increased flows to the property. DMU staff recommends that residents monitor plumbing for leaks and, if a leak is detected, shut off water service to the property immediately and contact a plumber for service. Property owners are responsible for water service from the curb stop to the building, while DMU takes care of water service from the water main to the curb stop. Anyone with additional questions is asked to contact DMU by calling 712-263-4154.
