Gas prices in Iowa edged closer to the three-dollar mark in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Sept. 4, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.11, three cents below last week’s prices and down 45 cents from a year ago. The national average slid four cents on the week to $3.32 per gallon. In Iowa retail diesel, prices fell two cents to a statewide average of $3.44 per gallon, compared to $4.27 this time last year. Iowa prices remain 25 cents below the national average of $3.69 per gallon. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16, while natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site rose seven cents to $2.19 per MMBtu.
