Iowa 4th District Congressman Randy Feenstra visited Carroll yesterday (Wednesday) on his annual 36-county tour, spending time with the Elderbridge Agency on Aging to better acquaint himself with the challenges facing older Iowans.
A significant portion of Elderbridge Agency on Aging’s funding comes from federal sources, which supports the many programs offered through the organization. However, that funding is at risk when the government’s fiscal year ends on Sept. 30. Historically, Congress has a budget ready for presidential approval by the end of summer, but Feenstra, who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, says it looks like a new budget won’t be ready by month’s end.
That still leaves the question of what level of funding will be included for organizations like the Elderbridge Agency on Aging. Feenstra says Congress’ repeated failure in recent years to finalize a budget by the fiscal year’s end showcases the need for the federal government to get back to basics.
Feenstra made his comments Wednesday morning during an in-studio interview with Carroll Broadcasting.
