The Manning Public Library invites all to attend a free presentation on Wednesday to learn about the Rosie the Riveters of Iowa from one of the state’s most prolific research writers, Linda McCann. McCann has written several books about various topics, from abandoned locations around Shell Rock, where she resides, to the State of Iowa’s history in significant national events. McCann says her research on topics usually leads to other focuses, so she is continuously busy finding out more information and writing. McCann says that her real interest in Rosie the Riveter was sparked when she discovered that many people did not know the origin story behind the name.

McCann says many people recognize the name, but few realize the history as it wasn’t discussed much. McCann knew she had to get something written to pass on the stories of Rosie the Riveters of Iowa.

McCann says the roadblock ended when she was visiting Mount Pleasant in southeast Iowa. One person was all it took to get the research and the story going.

McCann will be at the Manning Public Library this Wednesday starting at 6:00 p.m. During the presentation, she will share the history behind the movement and the true experiences of real-life Rosies from Iowa and answer any questions that attendees may have. Copies of Rosie the Riveter book, along with some of her other work, will be available for purchase. McCann looks forward to seeing everyone and sharing what she has learned over the course of two years completing this story.
