City officials in Exira are excited to see the construction begin for their Homes for Iowa project to bring new housing opportunities to the community. During the council’s June meeting, members approved the purchase of the HFI Jefferson Wide Left plans to be constructed on the city owned lot of 200 E Depot St. City Clerk Meg Andersen says the new house will have just over 1200-square-feet of finished space, but could potentially have it doubled to 2400-square-feet.

With the home purchasing process finalized, Andersen says the construction crew has around three to seven months before the house is delivered to Exira.

Andersen says the hopes of this new housing opportunity is to attract new residents to move to Exira to continue strengthening the community or to solve a current resident housing need.
