Gov. Reynolds Signs Fall Harvest Proclamation

Grain-Unloading

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation yesterday (Monday) loosening restrictions on weight limits for vehicles transporting agricultural goods during the upcoming harvest season. Effective immediately through Oct. 9, 2024, the proclamation permits vehicles carrying corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer, and manure to operate at weights up to 90,000 pounds without a special permit. The proclamation applies to all highways in Iowa, excluding the interstate system. It still requires compliance with posted road and bridge limits and restricts axle weight to a maximum of 20,000 pounds. Additionally, vehicles must adhere to Iowa Code weight guidelines, allowing for a 12.5 percent increase over the non-primary highway maximum gross weight table limits. This is the first harvest proclamation of the season and is expected to be extended until harvest-related work in the state is finished. A link to the declaration is included below.
