A Halbur man is set to go to trial at the end of Oct. for alleged continuous sexual abuse of a child 12 years old or younger. According to Carroll County District Court Records, 31-year-old John Mark Toyne was arrested by a Carroll County Sheriff deputy earlier this year after an investigation into allegations he had repeatedly engaged in sex acts with a juvenile female victim at a home in the 200 block of N. Main Street in Halbur between Jan. 1, 2022 and Nov. 30, 2023. Toyne was released from the custody of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department after posting a $100,000 surety bond. Toyne has pled not guilty to the charge of sexual abuse- continuous sexual abuse of a child, a class B felony. His jury trial is scheduled for Oct. 22 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If convicted, Toyne can face up to 25 years in prison.
