Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert sitting out game vs. Bills due to chest injury

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that running back Raheem Mostert will not play in Thursday’s home game against the Buffalo Bills. Mostert missed practice on Monday and Tuesday due to a chest injury.

McDaniel said that Mostert suffered the injury early in Sunday’s win over the Jaguars, adding that Mostert attempted to play through the injury: “He was working through it during the game. I’ve learned he might be the last guy I will ask if he’s good. His injury, not many people play with. My sense is, it’s not something that time won’t take care of. However, I’m not going to make him worse by setting forth my expectations of when he’ll play again” (per Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald.)

Mostert ended the game having rushed six times for nine yards, gaining six of those nine on a single carry and adding two catches for 10 yards. When McDaniel was asked by reporters whether Mostert would be out for a single game or more, he replied: “closer to the former but not ruling out the latter.” (per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald).

McDaniel said the team “will see how it plays out” with running back De’Von Achane, who missed practice this week with an ankle injury ( Achane returned to Dolphins practice on Wednesday in a non-contact jersey). Mostert earned his first career Pro Bowl nod last season while leading the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns. The second-year back ran for 25 yards and a touchdown, in addition to making seven catches for 75 yards, in Week 1. Mostert and Achane combined for 16 carries, 33 rushing yards and a touchdown during last week’s season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
