Katherine Dentlinger of Coon Rapids

   Katherine H. Dentlinger, age 90, of Coon Rapids, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by family.
    Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids with Fr. Dan Siepker as Celebrant assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners.  Lectors for the Mass will be Amber Stolt and Brooke Schwery.  Gift Bearers will be April Christianson, Nicole Dreyer, Kim Bowers, Hannah Christianson, Mya Hinners, and Peyton Christianson.  Casket bearers will be Amy Hinners, Tyler Dentlinger, Chance Gruhn, Tim Dentlinger, Michael Dentlinger, Lexi Gruhn, Megan Dentlinger and Matt Burgart.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham.
    A Rosary will be prayed at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids at 4:30 P.M. on Monday followed by visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7 P.M. with a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M.  The casket will be moved to Annunciation Catholic Church at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.

    Katherine was born on March 19, 1934 on her family’s farm south of Dedham.  She grew up on the farm and attended St. Joseph’s School in Dedham.  She was the daughter of Ed and Katherine (Kasperbauer) Irlbeck.  Katherine was married to Norman J. Dentlinger on August 18, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham by Fr. Henry Pick. The couple made their home southwest of Coon Rapids where they farmed on Katherine’s family farm until moving to their current farm in 1962.  In her younger years, she worked at the Brown Derby in Carroll as a waitress and later at Farmhouse Family Restaurant as a cook.  She also did seasonal work sorting corn for the Garst and Thomas Seed Company.  After her children left home, she worked for Thomas Rest Haven as a cook.  Katherine was an excellent cook and baker famous for her homemade noodles, fresh bread, buns, and pies.  She loved flowers, growing roses, and she took great pride in her beautiful lawn.
    Katherine is survived by three sons: Daniel Dentlinger and his wife Vicki of Coon Rapids, Terry Dentlinger and his wife Shelly of Coon Rapids, and Steve Dentlinger of Glidden; two daughters: Susan Hanson and her husband Lance of Manilla and Peggy Hinners and her husband Scott of Arcadia; twenty nine grandchildren; thirty four great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a daughter-in-law Sheila Dentlinger of Coon Rapids; a sister Angie Gassman of Lake City; a brother Edward Irlbeck Jr. of Dedham; a sister-in-law Elaine Irlbeck of Council Bluffs; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
    Katherine was preceded in death by her husband Norman J. Dentlinger in 2014; a son Norman F. Dentlinger Jr. in 2012; a daughter Kathy at age 2; three sisters: Dorothy King (Merlin), Darlene McDowell (Terry), and Dorene Biederman (Ed); and a brother Don Irlbeck.
