Iowa’s rural roads will soon be filled with combines, tractors, and grain trucks as the 2024 harvest begins in earnest, and Carroll County Sheriff Ken Pingrey is reminding motorists to do their part in keeping the roads safe. Pingrey says there are already some scattered reports of farmers out in their fields.
With increased equipment on the roads comes an increased need for caution.
Pingrey adds that drivers should consider the likelihood of encountering farm equipment when planning their travel times for the next couple of months, as accidents happen when people are in a rush.
Pingrey says Iowans need to be on the lookout for more than farm equipment; deer activity jumps around the same time.
For most parts of Iowa, harvest season typically wraps up by the end of November, if not much earlier.
