Help Carroll County Conservation Track Butterfly During Saturday’s Monarch Tagging Program

monarch-tagging-program-2024

Carroll County Conservation invites residents to get hands-on with butterflies tomorrow (Saturday) as part of the seasonal monarch tagging program. Participants will gather at 2 p.m. in the lower level of the Swan Lake State Park Conservation Education Center. Attendees will learn about these well-known butterflies as they journey from their summertime homes in the northern parts of the United States south to Mexico as the weather cools. Remarkably, individual monarchs routinely fly more than 25 miles a day during the migration season, but if conditions are right, several hundred miles is possible. Following the educational seminar, participants will tag and release monarchs raised at Swan Lake and attempt to tag any traveling through the park on Saturday afternoon. More details about the program and the Monarch Watch organization are included below.
