CCSD Board Of Education Hears Update On No Cell Phone Policy From Teacher And Student

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education heard from a high school special education teacher and a sophomore student on the impact of the no-cell phone policy during last night’s (Monday’s) meeting. Newly implemented this year, students are prohibited from using cell phones and other electronic devices during instructional hours, between class times, and during advisory and study hall periods. Special Education teacher Eric Nagl says he noticed a positive impact almost immediately.

Jason Smith, a sophomore at Carroll High School, says it was an adjustment that he needed to get used to, but he agrees with Nagl that students are now more focused.

Nagl says it’s not just socializing and engagement that has improved with the devices being unavailable.

Nagl also reported during the presentation that students have been cooperative, and few devices have been taken since the start of the school year.
