Last Monday, the Carroll County Ambulance Service (CCAS) and other agencies participated in a staged, multiple causality training to provide continuing education to Carroll County first responders. CCAS, Carroll County EMS Association, and the Carroll Fire Department engaged in this hands-on experience of extrication and treatment of patients that were involved in a set-up motor vehicle accident. As part of the training, the real-life simulation exposes the responders to the noises, potential hazards, and distractions that could happen during a real-life accident. This continuing education opportunity gives the hours required to recertify EMR, EMT, Paramedic and RN certifications and licenses. EMS certifications must be renewed every two years, with trainings held once every quarter ranging from four to eight hours each. Carroll County EMS often needs to use instructions from outside agencies to complete these trainings with comes at a cost to the department. Money raised during the annual Christmas light display at Swan Lake helps to offset those costs. Pictures from the training can be found on the Carroll County Iowa Ambulance Facebook page.
