A Gowrie man has been charged with abuse of a corpse in connection to the death of a Farnhamville teen over the weekend. According to Calhoun County District Court records, 21-year-old Nathaniel Kyren Bevers-McGivney is being held in the Carroll County jail, which routinely houses Calhoun County inmates, on no bond for the class D felony charge. A criminal complaint from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says the victim, who has only been identified by authorities as Jane Doe as of Monday evening, had been reported missing by her family late Sunday evening. The victim’s family encountered Bevers-McGivney while searching for her. Law enforcement says in the complaint he appeared to have blood on him and was in possession of several of the girl’s belongings, including her scooter. He was taken into custody after police questioned him, and he requested a lawyer. The girl’s body was located in a nearby cornfield around 9 a.m. Monday morning. Southeast Valley Community School District Superintendent Brian Johnson confirmed in an email to parents that the 17-year-old victim was a student in the district, and crisis response resources would be available for individuals who need them. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and additional charges against Bevers-McGiveny are pending.
