Martin “Jack” John Schmeiser, age 92, of Glidden, IA, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, IA.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden. Honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden with full military honors by the Glidden American Legion.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5 – 7 P.M. on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

Jack was born May 9, 1932 in Ames, IA, and was the son of Martin Luther and Winona Frances (Hall) Schmeiser. He attended grade school at St. Lawrence in Carroll and then graduated from the Carroll High School with the Class of 1950. He worked as a mechanic in Carroll from 1950 to 1953. In February of 1953, he enlisted into the United States Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Yarnall and was honorably discharged in February of 1957. He then was employed for the Norwegian Merchant Marines for four years before moving to Patagonia, AZ where he was a surveyor, surveying mines for a year. In 1962, he moved back to the Carroll area and was employed with Carroll County Engineers Office. On April 18, 1964 he was united in marriage to Elaine Wenck at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Maple River. They were blessed with four children: Ernie, Lincoln, Sara, and Amy. They made their home in Glidden and he continued to work for the Carroll County Engineers office until he retired in 2017. Jack enjoyed bird watching and was an avid hunter and could often find him shooting his guns.

Jack is survived by his two daughters: Sara (Jody) Boell of Milo, IA, and Amy (Dan) Nichols of Greensboro, NC; two sons: Ernie (LaJean) Schmeiser of Glidden, IA, and Lincoln (Staci) Schmeiser of Elkhart, IA; thirteen grandchildren: Alaina (Nathan) Perry of Aberdeen, SD, Andrew Schmeiser of Aberdeen, SD, Troy (Teresa) Hofer and their children, Jake, Ava, Bo, and Rex of Glidden, Elizabeth (Kyle) Muehlenthaler and their daughter Elaine of Ames, IA, Emily Schmeiser of Luther, IA, Martin Schmeiser of Elkhart, Logan Van Veen and fiancé Cassandra Adamson of Monroe, IA, Dayton (Haley) Boell of Milo, Caleb Thompson of Auburn, IA, Gatlin Boell of Ames, Bria Boell of Milo, Mac Nichols of Greensboro, and Ina Nichols of Greensboro; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife Elaine Schmeiser in 2011; his parents; brothers, David Schmeiser and Jerry Schmeiser; and cousin Jim Fay.
