Sec. Naig Encourages Iowans To Prepare Now For Harvest, Winter Propane Needs

With harvest season underway and winter just around the corner, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig is urging propane consumers to prepare by topping off their tanks sooner rather than later. Naig highlights the market’s current conditions, which are comparable to last year’s, with strong supply and stable prices. He says, “If you utilize propane to heat your home or livestock barn or rely on it for grain drying, now is the right time to top off your tanks. It’s a good time to get prepared for harvest and the colder weather that will be coming.” According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, nationwide propane stocks stood at 99.1 million barrels for the week ending Sept. 13, with Midwest stocks at 26.97 million barrels. The Iowa Department of Agriculture will continue monitoring propane prices throughout fall and winter. If farmers or agribusinesses face propane shortages, assistance is available using the contact points included with this story on our website.
