A first-degree murder charge has been filed against the Gowrie man initially arrested in connection to the death of a Farnhamville teen over the weekend. According to Calhoun County Attorney Ben Smith, 21-year-old Nathaniel Kyren Bevers-McGivney faces the class A felony in addition to one count of abuse of a corpse, a class D felony, that he was initially taken into custody for almost immediately after the investigation began. Law enforcement first responded to a missing persons report for a 17-year-old female, now identified as Michele “Luna” Jackson, on Sunday evening. Her body was discovered early Monday morning in Farnhamville. Authorities say in the criminal complaint that Bevers-McGivney used a knife to cut the victim’s throat with premeditation and specific intent to kill. He is currently being held at the Carroll County jail on no bond. Authorities believe this was an isolated incident and have assured the public there is no ongoing threat to safety. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office led the initial investigation with assistance from more than a dozen other agencies. The charges against Bevers-McGivney carry a penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
