Iowa high school students have less than a month left to request nominations for the U.S. service academies through Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office. Applications must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 25, and late submissions will not be considered. Final nominations will be announced by Dec. 31. Grassley says, “U.S. service academies offer students the opportunity to receive a world-class education while serving our great nation. It’s a privilege to nominate Iowa’s best and brightest to these prestigious academies. I encourage any interested student to apply.” Grassley’s nomination application is available on his website, a link to which is included with this story online, and students can submit their forms in person or by mail to his Des Moines office. Applicants must also submit preliminary applications directly to the academies. The U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy all select students based on congressional nominations. Sen. Joni Ernst and District 4 Rep. Randy Feenstra also accept nomination requests; details on their processes are included below.
