With construction completed, the Lake City Pickleball Committee launched the opening of the new pickleball courts this (Thursday) morning. Over the past two years, the committee fundraised to reach the $104,000 goal needed to construct the two courts in Goins Park. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in May of this year, with the anticipated completion date in August. Due to the posts for the nets getting set by sawing the holes into the poured concrete, setting the post, and pouring new concrete in to hold them, an additional 30 days needed to pass before the surfacing was applied. Anyone is now welcome to play the fastest-growing sport in America in Lake City at its pickleball complex. A bag containing four pickleball paddles and balls will be located at the courts, but otherwise, players are encouraged to use their gear. The Lake City Pickleball Committee wishes to thank the city council, local businesses, and community members for their support in making this project a reality.
