Iowans are invited to participate in the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) eighth annual Statewide Volunteer Day on Saturday, Sept. 28. Volunteers will assist in sprucing up trails, buildings, and other amenities at various state parks across Iowa. DNR Parks, Forests, and Preserves Chief Sherry Arntzen says, “Iowa state parks are beloved places for many Iowans, and we greatly appreciate the help volunteers provide,” Each park’s clean-up efforts will vary and may include litter pick-up, painting buildings, planting trees, clearing trails, and more. Volunteers are encouraged to check the Iowa DNR’s website for more information on park-specific activities and how to get involved. For more details or to register, visit www.iowadnr.gov/volunteer. Local volunteer opportunities include Springbrook State Park in Guthrie County. Participants will gather at the beach shelter and improve the nearby pollinator plots by removing vegetation and planting new plants from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers are asked to bring a water bottle, thick gloves, and snacks.
