The Carroll Couty Historical Society is getting ready for the spooky season next weekend with a planned tour of Carroll County’s ghosts. Historical Society President Barbara Hackfort says they are not referring to specters, phantoms, or ghouls; the tour focuses on the county’s forgotten ghost towns.
The bus tour is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6. Participants will leave from the Carroll County Museum on Highway 30 at 1 p.m. and should return around 4:30 p.m. Hackfort says at least four different stops are planned.
The tour includes Hillsdale, Tip Top, Browning, and Carrollton, with refreshments served at that final stop by the Carrollton Community Heritage Club. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Carroll Chamber of Commerce office on W. 5th Street or at the Carroll County Museum on Sunday, Sept. 29. The Historical Society has hosted a ghost town tour for the last several years, and it has been quite popular with participants. Hackfort encourages people to buy their tickets soon, as space is limited.
She adds the tour includes more than just visits to these forgotten towns. Part of the program also focuses on the people and businesses that comprised these places before they were removed from the map.
