Arcadia And Halbur Fire Departments Respond To Combine And Field Fire South Of Arcadia Wednesday Afternoon

The Arcadia and Halbur Fire Departments fought against the wind to put out a cornfield on fire south of Arcadia this (Wednesday) afternoon. Crews were dispatched to a corn field in the 20000 block of Delta Ave, near 240th Street, about six miles south of Arcadia, at approximately 1:40 p.m. It was reported that a combine had a belt overheat, causing flames to spread quickly over standing corn. Once firefighters arrived, a plan was carried out to extinguish the combined fire, and the fire was put in the field. Minimal damage was reported to the combine, and it will be able to be fully operational again after replacing a few parts, but around ten acres of standing corn have been destroyed. The Arcadia and Halbur Fire Departments were on the scene for roughly an hour and a half before returning back to their respective stations. Many other fires have been reported in the listening area, and fire departments are asking farmers to closely watch equipment and to keep a disk hooked up close by to knock down a potential fire if need be.
