Carroll County joins the list of counties implementing burn bans this (Wednesday) morning as the risk of an uncontrolled fire continues to grow. According to Carroll County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Jeff Cullen, Carroll County’s burn ban begins at 10 a.m. on Oct. 2 and will remain in effect until further notice. Most forms of open burning are prohibited under the order, with the exception of supervised, controlled burns for which a permit has been issued by the fire chief of the fire district where the burn will take place, the use of outdoor fireplaces, barbecue grills, properly supervised landfills, or the burning of trash in incinerators or made of metal, concrete, masonry, or heavy one-inch wire mesh, with no openings greater than one square inch. Violation of the open burning ban is a simple misdemeanor. Sixteen other counties, including Audubon and Greene counties, have burn bans in place as of Wednesday morning.
