Carroll Police Department Responds To Trespassing Male Subject Carrying A Gun At Fairview Elementary Wednesday

Police-Lights

Carroll Police Department responded to a Carroll man trespassing and carrying a weapon on school grounds this (Wednesday) morning. At approximately 11:24 a.m., law enforcement was dispatched to Fairview Elementary School for 26-year-old Darius Chandler, who had recently been banned from the property for being on school grounds. Once on scene, Chandler was detained, and it was found that he had a handgun in his possession. The firearm was never displayed or threatened to be used. Carroll Police Department wants it to be known that no current threats are being made to any schools in the community, and no students were in harm’s way during the incident. Chandler was taken into custody at the Carroll County Jail on charges of carrying a firearm on school property, a class D felony, and trespassing, a simple misdemeanor. In a email to parents, Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says the district is working with police to find the best ways to prevent this person who has a history of needing to be removed from school grounds from entering school property in the future. As an added precaution, increased law enforcement presence will be around Fairview Elementary today (Wednesday). Parents are encouraged to call Berlau with any questions or concerns they may have.
