Carroll County is implementing a countywide process for employees to follow in the event of a workplace injury. Board of Supervisors Chair Stephanie Hausman says the county has been fortunate to have a very low worker’s compensation claim rate compared to its peers, but a policy update is necessary to facilitate safety at all levels of county government. Hausman adds that the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) requires the county to have such a policy. She says the claims process is relatively simple.
Hausman says Carroll County is already a safe place for employees, and this policy will only reinforce a safety-centric culture.
Taxpayers also reap the benefits of employee safety, as the county pays less in insurance costs with fewer worker’s compensation claims year over year. The claims process update is part of an effort by county officials to refocus on staff safety over the last several years, including the reimplementation of the county’s safety committee, employee safety seminars, and more.
