The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies with a 7-2 win at home in Game 3 of their NLDS, giving them a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.

New York’s Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker homered, with Starling Marte hitting a two-run single to drive in Brandon Nimmo and Alonso in the sixth inning against Phillies’ starter Aaron Nola.  Mets’ starter Sean Manaea held Philly to a two-hit shutout into the eighth inning, striking out six and walking two for his first playoff win.

Game 4 is scheduled for Wednesday in New York at Citi Field, with the Mets just one win away from reaching the NL Championship Series for the first time since 2015.

On the west coast, the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers faced off in Game 3 of their National League Division Series, with the Padres beating the Dodgers 6-5 at Petco Park.

The Padres held a dominant 6-1 lead, when the Dodgers came back with a grand slam to bring the score to 6-5; however San Diego held them off with strong pitching in the late innings to maintain the lead, and eventual win.

The Padres now hold a 2-1 lead in the series and are one win away from reaching the NLCS for the second time in the past three seasons. Game 4 is scheduled for Wednesday at Petco Park.
