The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) will celebrate National School Lunch Week (NSLW) by emphasizing the importance of nutritious lunches for students’ education. The National School Lunch Program was created in 1946, ensuring all students, specifically from low-income families, receive healthy meals. The program benefits over 30 million children daily, reduces childhood hunger, improves American agriculture, and enhances academic performance. For this celebration, CCSD is recognizing the dedication of the food and nutrition services department, which served over 77,000 breakfasts and 225,000 lunches during the 2023-24 school year. Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says, “National School Lunch Week is an important reminder of the role healthy meals play in the education of our youth. By participating in this weeklong celebration, we aim to increase student participation in our lunch programs and promote the delicious and nutritious meals served at our schools.” This year’s NSLW is Oct. 14-18, with the theme being “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure!” Throughout the week, CCSD will encourage students to “hunt” for their favorite healthy meals and discover the “treasures” of eating nutritious meals daily. The entire community is encouraged to support the CCSD lunchroom staff, recognizing their vital role in nourishing students and promoting success during NSLW and every day.
