The countdown to the Nov. 5 General Election is at the three-week mark, and the Carroll County Growth Partnership (CCGP) and Carroll Chamber of Commerce are helping the public learn more about their local races with a candidate forum tomorrow (Tuesday). Ten candidates have been invited to participate in the two-hour forum at the Carroll Rec Center Auditorium, slated for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Three seats from the Carroll County Board of Supervisors are on the ballot. In District 1, Republican Scott Johnson is seeking reelection with no challenger, while District 3 Supervisor Gene Meiners is running unopposed. In District 5, Republican Mark McCrea of Carroll and Democrat Cindy Johnson of Carroll are seeking the seat previously held by Cindy Scaturico. The winner of the District 5 election will be sworn in a week after the election to complete the two months remaining in Scaturico’s term before beginning their usual term. The current Carroll County Auditor, Kourtney Payer, a Republican, and Carroll County Sheriff Ken Pingrey, also a Republican, are seeking reelection unopposed. For the District 11 State Representative race, Republican Craig Williams of Manning is running against Democrat Jeff Rich of Glidden. Only one other local race will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot: Senate District 6. Republican Jason Schultz of Schleswig faces Libertarian David Davis of Harlan. Again, the CCGP and Chamber candidate forum is slated for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Carroll Rec Center Auditorium. Early voting opens in Iowa the following day, Oct. 16.
